Numerical Investigation of Aerodynamic Characteristics and Fuselage-tail Interference for a Waverider-derived Vehicle with Typical Tail Layouts

Based on RANS solver, the hypersonic flow around waverider-derived vehicle has been numerically simulated to find out the aerodynamic characteristics of three typical tail layouts, furthermore, the interference mechanism between fuselage and tails was revealed. According to the simulation results, by analyzing the aerodynamic performance of the whole vehicle, it shows that the aerodynamic performance of twin vertical tails layout is better than the other two. By analyzing the longitudinal aerodynamic performance per unit area projected to the horizontal direction, the single vertical tail layout is better than the other two layouts. Finally, the interference flow mechanism between fuselage and vertical tail, oblique tail, horizontal tail is revealed. Conclusions of this paper, are of some quantitative and qualitative value to hypersonic vehicle's tail layout design.
