Size Detection of Solid Propellant Grain Based on Fourier Transform Profilometry

During ammunition manufacturing process, the size of solid propellant grain has a direct impact on the performance of the ammunition. Because of artificial detection has low-efficiency and bad-repeatability, traditional machine vision detection can only detect the surface size of the solid propellant grain, therefore, the detection method of the Fourier transform profilometry is proposed. This method gets the fringe image by using matrix CCD, and the image process contains the fringe correction, phase extraction and phase reconstruction, finally gets the 3D size of the solid propellant grain by calibration. The results show that this method has good real-time performance, greatly improves the detection efficiency, convenient for testing tiny deformation, and the detection error is within 0.2%.
