The Effect of Asymmetry between Liner and Charge on the Penetration Performance of Linear Shaped Charge Jet

The asymmetric linear shaped charges (LSC) were fired at RHA armor steel, and the experimental results were presented. The jet formation and penetration were simulated with finite-element code LS-DYNA3D. For the linear shaped charge configuration, it is suggested that at the eccentric distance between liner and charge is 1mm, the cratering width increases by 12.2%, while the penetration depth decreases by 58%, compared with the symmetric LSC. When the eccentric distance between liner and charge is 1mm, and the corner between the two axes is 5°, the LSC jet loses its 74% penetration capability. The cratering width increases with the asymmetric extent, while the penetration depth decreases.
