In order to solve the problems of high fatalness and low reliability of conventional explosion method for dangerous ammunition disposal, a new laser igniting system was developed. Working principle of this system is that pulse laser ignites shaped charge igniter, then metal fluid jet produced by the igniter penetrates projectile shell and ignites explosive, which can realize the aim of dangerous ammunition disposal. Test has been done for 5 kinds of projectile whose shell and explosive are different. All of the projectiles were reliably ignited. This test indicates that the laser igniting system has high security and reliability, which is a preferable method for dangerous ammunition disposal.
