In this paper, genetic algorithm optimization with single objective and multi-objective optimization was applied to design the geometric parameters of measuring elements of a cassette strain-gauge balance used in NF-3 wind tunnel located at Northwestern Polytechnical University. The business software ABAQUS was used to build the mathematical model of the cassette strain-gauge balance and to be analyzed. On the base of applying the original mechanics and the finite element analysis to the optimized balance and comparing it with traditional situation, some conclusions could be obtained. The drawn results show that the finite element computed result is conformed to the cassette strain-gauge balance design, and the approach of multi-objective optimization regarding stiffness is superior to the single-objective optimization; the method of genetic algorithm optimization cost short calculating time, and it has efficiency. So proposals from the paper may be have some successful engineering application value for the cassette strain gauge balance design.
