In order to get the effect of charge structure on lateral efficiency of ALP( active lateral penetrator), numerical simulation of the process of penetrating 4340 steel target plate with ALP at 1 200 m/s was carried out by using finite element analysis software AUTODYN-2D. The results show that compared with PELE, ALP can form a larger hole and has better lateral efficiency. When the ratio of distance between explosive center and penetrator bottom to the penetrator height δ/H is 0.8, the ring initiation and explosive B are adopted, ALP shows best lateral efficiency.
