Effect of Liner Height and Curvature Radius on Jet Penetration Power under High Standoff

In order to evaluate penetration power of rod-like jet under high standoff, warhead was provided for eccentric sub-hemisphere charge structure, the method of numerical simulation and static-explosion tests was used to analyze effect of liner height and radius of curvature on penetration power under high standoff. Simulation results: H/D <0.2, the penetrator shapes short and thick. H/D≥0.2, rod-like penetrator forms; 1.3<R/D≤1.7, the formed rod-like jet whose forming and speed are better. Based on 63-mm-diameter warhead structure, tests show that the charge structure with liner structural parameters of H/D = 0.3 or R/D = 1.7 forms rod-like jet, which can penetrate a 90-mm-thick 45 steel target under standoff of 1.2 m (20D). The research results can greatly provide a reference for rod-like jet and structural design of warhead under high standoff.
