Broadband Microstrip Antenna for Phased Array Applications

Abstract

For the application of microstrip antenna in phased array, a broadband miniaturized microstrip antenna with phased array was proposed. The microstrip antenna in this paper adopts double-layer microstrip structure with coaxial probe rear feeding it. The antenna possesses wide bandwidth, wide beam-width, wide scanning angle and easy to process and manufacture. The microstrip patch with these characteristics is suitable for application of phased array antenna. Finally, A 11 × 11 microstrip array with the element mentioned above has been designed, fabricated and tested. The measurement results show that: the bandwidth with active VSWR below 2.5 takes over 26% within ±50 degree scanning; Element pattern half-power beamwidth is about 100 degree.
