On the Spaced Effect of Armor on the Anti-penetration Performance

Numerical simulation was done on a plate and double spaced plates with equivalent thickness were penetrated normally and obliquely by the KE rods with LS-DYNA software. Penetration capability of the rods was analyzed according to the residual kinetics, and the armor spaced effect on the protective performance was obtained. The results show that when the rods penetrate the armor normally or at small oblique angle, anti penetrated performance of the single target is superior to the spaced targets with equivalent thickness. The space has no effect on the anti penetrated performance when penetrated normally, but the ratio of target space to rod length has effect on it when penetrated obliquely.
