Numerical Simulation and Experimental Investigation of Tandem Shaped Charge Jet

Abstract

In order to effectively cope with all kinds of modern armored targets, a new type shaped charge warhead was designed and its mechanism of formation was discussed. Using the three-dimensional finite element dynamic code, the study presents the penetration into target process of the prepositioned charge, postposition charge and the tandem shaped charge. By analyzing the results, it suggests that the new type tandem shaped charge can generate two highly stable and coaxial shaped charge jet, and the penetration depth of the tandem shaped charge is deeper 30% than that of the single liner. Series static armor-piercing tests were carried out to validate the performance of the proposed tandem shaped charge. The experimental results are compared with the numerical simulated results; they are match fairly well with each other. This new model shaped charge warhead deepens the connotation of shaped charge effects and enriches the means to defeat armored targets.
