Study on Fragment Dispersion Uniformity of Forward-firing Warhead

Abstract

It is necessary to get a uniform fragments field for the forward-firing warhead, for this reason, quantitative analysis on fragments dispersion uniformity is important. Fragments dispersion data was obtained through forward-firing warhead static explosion experiment. Considering the dispersion characteristics, the method evaluating fragments radial dispersion uniformity was proposed and quantitative analysis was made. The fragments dispersion area can be divided into four parts along the radial direction; they are central denseness zone, transition zone, sparseness zone and marginal ineffectiveness zone. The fragments in the transition zone and sparseness zone take about 45% of the totality. The fragments field density in those two zones decreases rapidly, so the warhead structure should be improved to make the marginal fragments close to the warhead axial line relatively. The circumferential dispersion uniformity of the fragments is well, and the uniformity index number is 0.92.
