Abstract

A new technique was investigated to substitute the conventional control surface with inflatable gasbag. Both numerical methods based on the unstructured grids and wind tunnel experimental approachs were introduced to verify the effectiveness. It is shown that the local surface shape induced by the inflatable gasbag can result in the change of aerodynamic characteristics like the conventional control surface. This technique can eliminate the use of driving system for the conventional control surfaces, and the RCS of the wing will be reduced. The new technique is believed to supply a control system for modern stealthy flight vehicle.
