Integrated Circuit Life Calculation Based on Poisson Distribution

The mean time of failure of integrated circuits (MTBF) is the main index to determine the system reliability. This paper presents an effective method to calculate the MTBF. In this paper, the general rule of the integrated circuit failure is introduced firstly, which meets the rules of the bathtub curve. The analysis shows that the life of the integrated circuit satisfied the Poisson distribution. Based on these two conditions, an algorithm for computing integrated circuit MTBF is proposed. In this paper, the mean time of failure is calculated according to a set of failure time of IC 74HC0O to verify the reliability of the method.
