A Spherical Vector Calculating Method for Landing Footprint Area

Abstract

Aiming at the actual engineering requirements for the calculation of the landing footprint area and the area entering the target region during the spacecraft lift-type reentry return to the earth, the concept of directed area commonly used in the calculation of planar polygonal area is extended to a sphere. An area calculation method considering the spherical shape is proposed. The calculation results show that the method is feasible, and the advantages and disadvantages of the method and the use recommendations are given. The research results have some certain reference significance for the calculation of spacecrafts landing footprint area.
