Background Influence on the Hypersonic Vehicle Detection

The infrared operating range was estimated for the hypersonic vehicle in the ground/cloud/sea background for their influence on the detectability. The modified operating range model was built on basis of the detection geometry as well as the path thermal. The infrared radiation characteristics computation model of X-51A’s skin, nozzle and plume were given on basis of aerodynamics, afterburning theory and simplified plume model. The infrared radiation in the ground/cloud/sea background was computed. It showed in simulations that the operating ranges in three typical backgrounds differed slightly at 6Ma. And the effects of the background on the operating range were smaller with higher speed. It is inferred that the detection background can be ignored with very high velocity.
