The Influence of Impact Velocity and Rotation Velocity on PELE Effect

Abstract

Penetration process of penetrator with enhanced lateral effect (PELE) in metallic target was simulated by AUTODYN 3D code. Through the analysis of the residual velocity of PELE projectiles, diameter of aperture on target, distribution of the quality of the fragments and the number of the fragments, scattering angles of the fragments with different impact velocity and rotation velocity, the tendency of lateral effect was achieved. The result is useful in choosing impact velocity and rotation velocity in engineering design of PELE.
