Comparison of Some Guidance Modes for Widening the Impact Angle of Air-to-ground Missile

Abstract

To achieve better lethality for attacking hard targets such as strongly reinforced bunkers, and underground command and control centers, many state-of-the-art air-to-ground missiles need higher impact angles. Over-compensated proportional navigation and trajectory shaping guidance proposed by Zarchan were analyzed and simulated. A new guidance law that combines the method of Zarchan's trajectory shaping guidance and proportional navigation was proposed and studied. The simulations indicate that it can get nearly 90°impact angles, and it is very suitable for standoff air-to-ground missile and guided bombs released from high altitude.
