Research on the Impact Initiation to Supersonic Missile by Tungsten Heavy Alloy Penetrator

Abstract

In order to study the characteristics of impacted initiation of high-speed tungsten heavy alloy penetrator for supersonic missile warhead, Lee-Tarver ignition and growth model was used for numerical simulation, the mechanism of tungsten heavy alloy penetrator impacting initiation on the warhead of supersonic missile and the influence rules of the intersection angle on impact initiation were got. The results show that impacting initiation of the tungsten heavy alloy penetrator on supersonic missile warhead occurs when the penetrator adiabatically shears the explosive; For the same off-axis distance, the capabilities of impacting initiation of the tungsten heavy alloy penetrator on the supersonic missile are in direct proportion to the incidence angle and then in inverse proportion; As for the same incidence angle, the smaller of the off-axis distance, the bigger of the abilities of impact initiation of tungsten heavy alloy penetrator on supersonic missile.
