Numerical Simulation of Hypersonic Unsteady Flow Around a Spiked Blunt-Body

Abstract

Strong unsteady flow of flow field around the spiked blunt-body has negative effect on drag reduction of vehicle and thermal protection of the head. In order to study the evolution of this periodic unsteady flow and the effect on the drag of the vehicle, the hypersonic flow was numerically simulated by using Fluent package, and the flow structure and mechanism of the three processes of one cycle: collapse, inflation and suppression, were discussed in detail. The correspondence between the drag coefficient curve and different flow structure was obtained, also. Keywords: hypersonic; unsteady; spike
